Personal Risk Management

Purpose

This course aims to provide learnerswith the necessary skills and knowledge to identify the issues and processesinvolved in personal risk management (insurance) and to provide advice oneffective strategies to mitigate risk.

Thisis a stand alone course that is part of the nationally recognised New Zealand qualification of the National Certificate in Financial Services (Financial Advice) (Level 5).

Who should attend this course?

  • Have you started, or are you considering working in the insurance sector and intend giving personal risk management advice
  • Would you like instruction in the basic skills of personal risk planning as practiced throughout the industry
  • Do you need an understanding of the different insurance products available in New Zealand

Learning objectives

After completing this course youwill be able to:

  • Establish effective relationships with clients and identify client needs, objectives and financial situation
  • Evaluate clients insurance needs and develop and present appropriate strategies and solutions to meet those needs
  • Negotiate, implement, monitor and review an insurance policy, plan, transaction
  • Comply with industry legal requirements, regulatory obligations and professional codes
  • Establish and maintain appropriate client files and records

  • An overview of the NZ Insurance Industry
  • Risk management practices and techniques
  • Legislation and compliance relevant to the insurance industry
  • Risk products and services including general (non life) insurance and life insurance
  • The role of the underwriter and the underwriting process
  • Advice process for providing insurance advice

Qualification

Upon successful completion of the program, you will be qualified to provide personal advice in relation toregulated personal risk products.

You will receive a Certificate of Competence signifying partial completion of the following NZQA accredited New Zealand qualification, the National Certificate in Financial Services (Financial Advice) (Level 5).

This course is approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority(NZQA) under the provisions of the Education Act 1989, and Adviserlink is a registered private training enterprise accredited to teach it.
